Pork is considered as a “hypoallergenic” protein, meaning it is less likely to trigger food sensitivities and acts as an alternative for other proteins that may stimulate allergic reactions. It is highly digestible and known as the “other white meat” and is a good source of taurine, vitamin C, vitamin B12, selenium, zinc and phosphorous.
Common concern when feeding pork: Will my pet get trichinosis? This is the most common reason why people are hesitant to feed raw pork. Trichinosis is caused by the roundworm parasite, trichinella. It was a widespread problem up to the mid-20th century, but due to aggressive management in many parts of the world, very effective steps have been made, as a result trichinella is effectively non-existent in human-grade commercial meats. Canada has had no confirmed cases since 1980
